We repair all Sub-Zero refrigerators in Las Vegas, Henderson and Boulder City. The most common failures are a dirty condenser, failed evaporator or condenser fan motors, defrost system problems, bad thermistors, control or inverter boards, and sealed system leaks. The diagnostic service call is $75, and most repairs are finished on the first visit with parts we stock.
Common Sub-Zero Refrigerator Problems
| Symptom | Most likely causes | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Refrigerator not cooling | Dirty condenser, condenser fan, evaporator fan, defrost failure, compressor or inverter | Not cooling guide |
| Fridge warm, freezer cold | Fresh food evaporator fan, defrost heater, thermistor, valve or damper | Guide |
| Freezing food in the fridge | Thermistor, stuck damper or valve, control board | Guide |
| Water leaking | Clogged defrost drain, cracked drain pan, water valve, filter head | Guide |
| Frost or ice buildup | Defrost heater, defrost sensor, door gasket, door alignment | Guide |
| Runs constantly | Dirty condenser, gasket leak, low refrigerant charge | Guide |
| Clicking, no cooling | Start relay/overload, inverter board, compressor | Guide |
| Loud noise | Fan blades hitting ice, worn fan motor bearings, compressor | Guide |
| Service light / alarm | Stored fault: sensor, fan, defrost, compressor | Service light |
| Dead display | Breaker or GFCI, power supply, control board | Guide |
How Sub-Zero Refrigerators Work, and Why They Fail
Most full-size Sub-Zero refrigerators use dual refrigeration, with separate evaporators and separate air paths for the fresh food and freezer sections. Depending on the model, one compressor feeds both evaporators through a refrigerant valve, or each section has its own sealed system. The control reads thermistors in each compartment and runs the compressor and fans to hold set points within a narrow band.
On full-size built-ins, the compressor and condenser sit in a mechanical compartment, usually behind the top grille. Heat from the condenser has to escape through that grille. In a Las Vegas kitchen, where the attic and walls can be extremely hot in summer, a dusty condenser or weak condenser fan quickly leads to high head pressure, long run times and eventually compressor failure. That's why condenser service is the first thing we check.
Other common wear items:
- Evaporator fan motors. They run for long periods and eventually wear their bearings or fail electrically. If the fan fails, the fresh food section warms even though the evaporator is cold. See evaporator fan motor repair.
- Defrost components. A failed heater or defrost sensor lets frost block the evaporator. See defrost system repair.
- Thermistors. A drifting sensor makes the control hold the wrong temperature. See thermistor replacement.
- Electronic controls. Power surges and heat age control and inverter boards. See control board repair.
- Sealed system. Leaks, restrictions and worn compressors. See sealed system repair.
Our Sub-Zero Refrigerator Repair Process
- Temperature and airflow check in every compartment.
- Condenser inspection: coil condition, fan operation, airflow through the grille.
- Electrical tests on fans, heaters, sensors, valves and the compressor circuit.
- Fault history read from the control on electronic models.
- Sealed system evaluation when needed: frost pattern, temperatures, amperage, and gauges when justified.
- Upfront quote, then the repair with stocked Sub-Zero parts.
