Thermistors are the temperature sensors Sub-Zero controls rely on. Each compartment, and often each evaporator and the condenser, has one. A failed or drifting thermistor makes the control hold the wrong temperature, mistime defrost, or trigger the service indicator.
What It Does
A thermistor changes resistance with temperature. The control converts that resistance to a temperature reading. If the reading is wrong, every decision the control makes is wrong.
Symptoms of Failure
- Compartment too cold or too warm
- Defrost problems
- Service indicator
- Display temperature doesn't match a thermometer
Why It Fails
- Moisture intrusion at the sensor or connector
- Wire damage
- Age
Diagnosis & Replacement
We compare resistance with temperature tables and check wiring, then replace and verify readings.
