The condenser fan pulls air across the condenser coil to remove heat. In Las Vegas heat, a failed or weak condenser fan quickly causes poor cooling, long run times, compressor overheating and overload clicking. It's one of the most common and most important Sub-Zero repairs we make.
What It Does
The condenser fan sits in the mechanical compartment (top grille on built-ins, toe-kick on undercounter units) and runs whenever the compressor runs.
Symptoms of Failure
- Poor cooling in all compartments
- Compressor clicks on overload
- Unit runs constantly
- Grinding or rattling at the grille
- Grille area unusually hot
Why It Fails
- Dust and lint load on the motor
- Heat
- Bearing wear
- Debris hitting the blade
Diagnosis & Replacement
We test the motor and its power, clean the condenser and replace the fan. We then confirm condenser temperatures and compressor amperage are back to normal.
In stock: we carry common Sub-Zero parts on our service vehicles, so most sub-zero condenser fan motor repairs are completed on the first visit.
