Sub-Zero Ice Maker Not Making Ice

No ice from freezer or standalone ice makers.

Updated October 2026 · By the Sub-Zero Repair Las Vegas service team

Quick answer

A Sub-Zero ice maker usually stops making ice because it's turned off, the water supply is closed or kinked, the filter is clogged, the fill tube is frozen, the water valve or ice maker module has failed, or the freezer is too warm. Standalone UC-15I units also stop because of scale buildup, water pump or drain pump failures.

This applies to both the automatic ice makers inside Sub-Zero freezers and standalone UC-15I clear-ice makers.

Check These First (5 Minutes, No Tools)

  1. Make sure the ice maker is turned on (check for an ice maker off icon).
  2. Confirm the water supply valve is fully open.
  3. Replace the water filter if it's overdue.
  4. Check the freezer is at about 0°F.
  5. Make sure the bin sensor or arm isn't blocked by ice.
  6. For UC-15I: run a cleaning cycle if the clean light is on.
