A Sub-Zero high temperature alarm means a compartment stayed above its set point for an extended time. It's usually accompanied by beeping and a flashing temperature. Causes range from a door left open or a big load of warm groceries to a dirty condenser, a failed fan, a defrost failure or a sealed system problem.
What It Means
The control monitors each compartment. If the temperature stays significantly above the set point, it sounds an alarm and flashes the display. It's a warning that food may be at risk.
Common Causes
- Door left open or not sealing
- Large load of warm food
- Dirty condenser or failed condenser fan
- Failed evaporator fan
- Iced evaporator from a defrost failure
- Compressor, inverter or sealed system problem
What You Can Do
- Acknowledge the alarm (press any key on most models).
- Make sure all doors and drawers close completely.
- Clean the condenser if dusty.
- Wait several hours. If the alarm repeats, call.
What a Technician Does
We find out why the compartment warmed: airflow, defrost, controls or refrigeration. Then we repair it and verify temperatures.
